The COVID-19 pandemic radically transformed daily life, and many office buildings in our business districts still find themselves underused in 2023. This cultural shift towards remote work has left many to wonder how to reactivate not only these buildings, but their neighborhoods and economies. This combined with our ever-growing need for housing in NYC has led many planners, architects, landlords, and policy makers to imagine ways in which to transform these commercial office buildings for residential use. This conference looks at the opportunities and challenges related to such conversions, and features panels addressing the many aspects that help make such conversion possible. Panel topics span regulations, policies, and financing, and will explore the implementation—and ultimate impact–such change would make on both neighborhoods and regions.
The conference is a public event intended for a wide range of stakeholders including academics, developers, architects, planners, government officials, and community members.
