On 08.01.14, Archtober 2014 kicked off its Building of the Day schedule with a truckload of Coolhaus New York’s architecturally-inspired frozen treats. The Center for Architecture’s dedicated team of Archtoberites, branded umbrellas in hand, parked themselves in front of the Public Theater, prepared to hand out ice cream sandwiches to followers of New York City’s architecture and design festival, rain or shine. The theater, recently renovated by Ennead Architects, will open its doors to an architect-led tour of design enthusiasts on 10.01.14 as the first Building of the Day of 2014.
The cool flurry of Archtober activity went viral as satisfied attendees (including grateful Public Theater staff) shared their love of ice cream and architecture on Twitter and Instagram.
The Center for Architecture was also joined by members of our partnering organizations. We’d like to especially thank the Architecture and Design Film Festival, the Judd Foundation, the Royal Norwegian Consulate General, the Center for Architecture Foundation, and Archtober’s designer Pentagram for cooling off at our kick off.
Subsequent Buildings of the Day, including Skidmore, Owings & Merrill’s University Center at The New School, Davis Brody Bond’s National September 11 Memorial Museum, and Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects’ The Pavilion at Brookfield Place, have been unveiled daily on Archtober’s social media outlets. You can follow the Building of the Day reveal on Archtober’s website, Facebook and Twitter throughout the rest of August.
