The Center for Architecture welcomed architects, design professionals, and the public back to its space on March 9, 2023, for Guess-A-Sketch. The architecture-themed, Pictionary-style tournament raised $89,250 to support the Center for Architecture’s mission of providing design education programs for children, families, and adults.
Center for Architecture Board Trustee Kim Yao, AIA, Principal, Architecture Research Office, served as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies while four architects sketched iconic buildings from around the world on stage. Eight teams, including long-time reigning champions Robert A.M. Stern Architects, guessed live, and audience members were invited to tweet their guesses to win a range of prizes provided by our sponsors.
The 2023 Honoree Sketchers were:
- Michael Arad, AIA, LEED AP, Partner, Handel Architects
- Andrés Jaque, PhD, Dean, Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation; Founder, Office for Political Innovation
- Stephen Slaughter, Chair of Undergraduate Architecture, Pratt Institute
- Andrea Steele, AIA, Founding Principal, Andrea Steele Architecture
Each sponsored by AEC firms, eight teams competed to receive the Guess-A-Sketch trophy: Ennead Architects, Gensler, Lutron, Rafael Viñoly Architects, Robert A.M. Stern Architects, Silman, STUDIOS Architecture, and STV. After three competitive rounds, the RAMSA team maintained its winning status for sixth time in the tournament’s 11 years, followed by Silman as runner up.
The funds raised through Guess-A-Sketch are critical to keeping the Center for Architecture’s programs affordable and accessible to all New Yorkers. Congratulations to all the participating teams and thank you to all our attendees for supporting K-12 education!
