by Center for Architecture
Every summer, the Center for Architecture hosts its Annual Golf Classic, bringing together golfers from the architecture, engineering, construction, and real-estate communities for a wonderful day of golf and networking. On July 9, more than 100 professionals joined us at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale to take part in the event and support our K-12 education initiatives. AIANY 2024 President Greg Switzer, AIA, NOMA, NCARB, welcomed all the players and Executive Director Jesse Lazar, Assoc. AIA, thanked the day’s sponsors. This year was particularly fun as we launched our Inaugural Pickleball Tournament! Twelve pickleball players turned up the heat on the courts as colleagues cheered them on.
The event was a tremendous success and raised over $200,000, providing funding for scholarships for students to participate in our design education programs and to help to keep our programs affordable for New York City public schools. This year, we partnered again with the Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) and their First TEE program, which seeks to create affordable and accessible golf facilities for young people from all backgrounds. Founded in 2001, 76 percent of First TEE participants come from underserved or underrepresented communities. We were thrilled to have four young golfers join us this year, hosted by Goetz Fitzpatrick, LERA Consulting Engineers, and 1100 Architect, to learn about the building industry and enjoy the day on the green.
The Golf Classic also featured a silent auction, of which some items are still available:
Please email development@aiany.org with any questions about remaining auction items!
