Hats and roofs have a lot in common! Both can be designed to protect you from the cold, from too much sun, or from getting wet in the rain. Just like hats, roofs are also a great way for a building to be fashionable and distinctive in the skyline! Follow the instructions below to design your own rooftop hat to stand out from the crowd.
Materials: Pencil ▪ Tape or Glue ▪ Ruler ▪ Scissors ▪ Chipboard or cardstock ▪ Decorative materials
Step 1: Cut your thickest material into 1-inch strips. Glue or tape strips together until it is long enough to wrap around your head. Fasten the long strip into a circle so it can be placed on top of your head like a paper crown.
Step 2: Create a dome by gluing or taping additional strips to the circle from Step 1. Each strip should create an arch as it reaches across the circle from one side to the other. Continue adding strips until the dome becomes strong and snug enough to fit on your head.
Step 3: Use decorative materials to build details on and around the dome structure to create your rooftop hat. Look for inspiration in existing buildings and be creative!
Step 4: Share a photograph of your creation on Instagram! Tag @centerforarch.
