Join Design Trust for Public Space and the NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) to celebrate the launch of the El-Space Toolkit. The 11 case studies across North America featured in the toolkit demonstrate approaches to various typologies of el-space (space beneath elevated transportation structure), from linear pathways to crossings to commercial corridors or market spaces, highlighting the range of potential, from enhanced infrastructure to destination parks to trails. The toolkit also covers the lifecycle of developing and implementing el-space projects, highlighting lessons learned for this emerging field from pilot sites in New York City, with exemplary practices and considerations on how to improve el-space conditions.
In this program, leading practitioners and city representatives from Boston, New York, and Toronto will discuss how to reimagine el-spaces citywide and internationally using this first-of-its-kind comprehensive guide through a panel conversation about innovative strategies for advancing design, planning, and programming for el-space sites.
